Freebie Alert! Peace, Love, Cure a Multiple Sclerosis Awareness kit

I was asked quite awhile ago to do this kit. I got busy with other projects and put it aside. Then I found out my Uncle was diagnosed with MS. It was a shock, because with that came a bunch of other issues. I took it hard, all the stuff that was happening to him at once. We've always been super close. He often talked about how he just wanted to be able to go "home" even though he lived in Washington most of his life, they had relocated to Montana many years ago. He wanted to go home to be with his new grand baby on the way in August, she will be here. Going home meant the time he needed to heal and get better. Work on focusing better, healing his body and being in the fresh mountain air. He loves the out doors and camping. When I last talked to him, he told me how much better he felt. The headaches were gone, he could walk better and he wasn't depressed anymore. Life was good! I was so incredibly happy.

I have a few dear friends who are also living with MS. I know how difficult it is for them to deal with and heal. My heart aches because I can't "fix" them so to speak. I love them so much and it means so much to me to have them in my life. So Barb and Kris, this is for you!

I went a different route with this kit. I wanted to make a tribute to what Uncle Matt wanted and what he was able to get. This is all about nature and peace, and I hope you all enjoy it.

  23. Shani,

Thank you so very much for creating and sharing this kit. I also appreciate your notification about the kit to me. As you know, I have MS, and I greatly appreciate your willingness to alert people to this disease.

What so many people do not know is Multiple Sclerosis treats every person afflicted differently. Montel Williams has done a great deal of advertising about MS, but unfortunately, he also made the public think MS would rob him of everything because he would develop every symptom of the disease before dying from it. This is not true. No one, no matter how severely their MS is, develops every symptom of the disease. MS can be as mild as vertigo or as severe as complete paralysis. In between the spectrum people will have a whole host of symptoms, some of which are extremely strange. In fact, some of the symptoms can be so bizarre as to cause patients not to mention them to their doctors because they do not know they are a symptom of the disease. For example, there are certain high pitch sounds which I not only hear but also physically feel as hundreds of needles stabbing me at once. Who would have thought this symptom had anything to do with MS? This strange symptom is the result of damage to myelin tissue which surrounds the nerves causing the signals to the brain "to jump the track" and instead of being registered as sound in my brain, they are registered as touch.

There has been tremendous headway in the search for a cure. There has always been the question as to why people of northern European descent have a higher probability of acquiring the disease, and why do those of African descent have a smaller probability of getting the disease. The study of this question many believe will lead to a cure, and some even suggest the cure could come as soon as five to ten years. The suspicion is some individuals of northern European descent are exposed to a virus which those of African descent are often able to fight off this virus.

In the past it was believed MS was restricted to initial appearance in individuals who were in their mid to late twenties, which is why it took so long for me to be diagnosed. My symptoms appeared when I was only twelve years old. Today infants are being diagnosed with the disease and dying from it before they even reach even six months of age.

I could go on and on, but I do not want to bore you or anyone else who might come across my comments. Therefore, I will end by saying once again, thank you for creating this kit and sharing it for free. It means a great deal to me for obvious reasons.

    Donna
